A trip to Cairo to see the Pyramids the only one of the original Seven Wonders of the ancient world that is still surviving is surely on everyone’s bucket list.
We only run private trips either by luxury car for 2-3 people or by air conditioned mini bus for 4-9 people so you wont be waiting around picking people up from other hotels and you can set the pace. However, we will be honest with you – its a very long day and not suitable for young children.
Our Sample Itinerary
We will pick you up from your hotel around 2-2.30 am The journey will take us on well built roads running parallel to the Gulf of Suez and we will have a comfort stop along the way before continuing our drive to Cairo. Its not the most picturesque road so you may want to try and catch up on your sleep. As we arrive into Cairo you will wonder how so many cars can fit onto one road and how to people ever manage to cross them on foot!
Museum of Cairo
Our first stop is the museum of Cairo also known as the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities in Tahrir Square. You may have heard that many artefacts are being moved to the Grand Egyptian Museum at Giza. At present this museum is not open to the general public but rest assured there is still lots to see at the Museum of Cairo including the most famous – King Tutankhamun’s death mask made of 11kg of solid gold.
The Royal Mummies have now been moved to the National Museum of Egyptian Civilisation. If you would prefer to visit this museum please let us know.
Boat Trip on The Nile (Optional)
Another optional extra is a short boat trip on the Nile. if you wish to do this please ask your driver who will give you a price and make the necessary arrangements.
You will now be taken to a local restaurant for lunch which includes 1 soft drink. You can order more drinks but these will need to be paid for.
The Pyramids and Sphinx
After lunch we will drive to the Giza Platea where the pyramids are located. Your guide will explain the history of the 3 main Pyramids of Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure. Did you know there are more than 3 on this site? They were built to house the remains of the deceased pharaohs, with the embalmed body entombed deep within the Pyramid with all the items he would need for the afterlife.
Until you see the Pyramids for yourself you really cannot envisage the sheer magnificence of these buildings and how the workers built them almost 4,600 years ago.
You will have plenty of time to view the pyramids and the Sphinx in your own time and even go inside one (at extra cost and only if you are fully fit and not claustrophobic!) You could also opt to have a photo taken of you on a camel with the Pyramids as your backdrop but will need to bargain hard for a good deal.
We will then start on our journey back to Hurghada, again with a comfort break part way and should have you back at your hotel at approximately 21.30
